Police: Fugitive wanted in fatal hit-and-run crash was in white Chevy Malibu

‘I lost my dad’: Victim’s son makes emotional plea for justice

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Detectives who have been searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash asked the public Friday to help them find a Chevy Malibu with damage on the passenger side.

Luis Volweider said he wants justice for his father, Rafael Volweider, who had left a night class at Hollywood Hills Community School and was on his way home. He was 60.

“You leave, you don’t care,” the victim’s grieving son said. “A life was lost yesterday. I lost my dad.”

The white car is likely missing a passenger-side fog light and a piece of the front bumper, according to Officer Christian Lata, a spokesman for the Hollywood Police Department.

Police officers found the hit-and-run crash victim dead at about 8:45 p.m., on Thursday, at Stirling Road and Sarazen Drive. Detectives estimate the Chevy Malibu is from 2016 to 2018.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to call 954-764-4357 or 954-967-4567, or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
