Miami Dolphins part ways with DC Vic Fangio

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio have agreed to part ways, the team confirmed on Wednesday.

Sources say the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to hire Fangio in the same role.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Miami is allowing Fangio to leave the team to be closer to his family in Pennsylvania.

Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel released the following statement on the team’s website Wednesday following the decision to part ways with Fangio:

“I want to thank Vic for his contributions in 2023. When we assessed the season, it became apparent that this was the best path forward for all parties involved,” said McDaniel. “Now, we turn our focus to 2024 and beyond with urgency as we identify the best candidate to lead our defense moving forward. We remain steadfastly committed to the development of our players and to building a winning team with sustained success.”

Fangio has spent only one season with the Dolphins but helped orchestrate a defense that was ranked in the top 10 during the 2023-2024 season.

Under Fangio, the Dolphins’ defense improved from 18th in yards allowed per game in 2022 to 10th this season.

Fangio, 65, worked with the Eagles for two weeks last year as a consultant, helping them prepare for Super Bowl LVII before eventually joining the Dolphins.

Miami will look for Fangio’s replacement before the NFL Draft and free agency begin.
